ABOUT THE JEWELLERY

What materials are used?

I use a lot of different materials in my work but for most pieces I will use UV resin to encapsulate hair, cremation ashes and other materials. I will combine this with the highest quality pigments, foils, natural products, glitters and iridescent flakes. I use Sterling Silver wire, chain and findings to finish my pieces to create a high quality, long lasting memorial piece.

How are they made?

My jewellery is not mass produced. I work alone and I create each piece by hand. It is not as simple a process as most other memorial jewellery. Each piece takes several hours to create. Most of my resin work is done in layers and involves a lot of carving, sanding and finishing to create a piece that is beautiful, bespoke and unique.

A lot of my designs include wire wrapping which is an art in itself. The wrapping I do is not what you would commonly see in wire wrapped jewellery. I prefer the wiring to look more organic and this is why each piece is unique.

Timeframe

I will normally be able to start work on your memorial piece within a few days of receiving the ashes or hair. This is obviously dependent on how many orders I receive. I will keep you updated as to when you can expect your jewellery to be completed.

I also have to limit the time I spend being in contact with resin. Unfortunately I am allergic to uncured resin and prolonged exposure to the resin and also heat from having to wear gloves can cause me to have quite a painful reaction on my hands.

Due to this allergy I have a limited amount of time that I can spend creating resin pieces per day. If I have many orders, the timeframe may have to be extended. You are more than welcome to email me for an estimated time frame before you order at rayacreative@hotmail.com
